SRI AMAN: The upgrading project of the Bayai Water Treatment Plant has benefited 54,000 residents in Simanggang and the surrounding area. It also includes solving water supply issues in the area.

According to the statement by UKAS, the said project which was completed in Dec last year was fully funded by the state government at a cost of RM22 million.

Utilities and Telecommunications Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi stated that the project had increased the capacity of the Bayai Water Treatment Plant from 33.3 million litres per day (LDP) to 53.3 LDP.

“The increase in water production capacity has had a significant impact on the improvement, and consistency of the water supply system throughout Simanggang and its surrounding areas,” he said when declaring open the Bayai Water Treatment Plant Upgrade Project here on yesterday (Nov 5).

In line with this, he also disclosed that the implementation of 14 high-impact water supply projects with a total construction cost of around RM543 million proves the concern and commitment of the Sarawak government via his ministry. This is also assisted by the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) as well as the Federal government through the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KPLB) to improve the existing water supply system in Sri Aman.
