BINTULU: A one-off payment of RM1,500 each will benefit a total of 596 community leaders comprising Pemanca and Temenggong, courtesy of the state government.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg said the federal government had given the amount to the community leaders but did not include the two positions in the state.

“This is because in the peninsula there is no such position. Therefore, the state government is taking the initiative to provide One-Off payment to those who hold the positions, “he said.

He made the announcement at a lunch in conjunction with his official visit to Bintulu at a leading hotel in town yesterday.

Johari who made a one-day visit to Bintulu Division arrived at Bintulu Airport at 10am yesterday.

Also present were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Minister of Utilities Dato’ Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.

They were greeted upon arrival by the Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Haji Talib Zulpilip, Samalaju State Assemblyman Majang Renggi and Murum State Assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon.

Subsequently Johari attended a briefing session by the Bintulu Division Secretariat of Flood Management Committee at Bintulu Airport.

After that, Johari departed to Tatau to look into the situation of flood-affected people at the Tatau Sports Hall Temporary Transfer Centre there.

He also looked at the condition of Sekolah Kebangsaan Ulu Segan which was also affected by the recent flooding.

In his speech, he also said that several schools would be provided with provisions for the post flood recovery purpose.

“SK Ulu Segan is understood to be always flooded, and maybe we will move it to a higher place.

“I agree about finding a place to make a new school, especially at a higher area,” he said.

The lunch was also attended by more than 300 community leaders from around Bintulu together with officials from various government and private agencies.
