6.3 magnitude quake hits Japan

KUALA LUMPUR: A strong magnitude 6.3 earthquake was detected in Shikoku, Japan at 10.14 pm earlier last night.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) reported that the epicentre was situated at 33.2 degrees north and 132.4 degrees east, about 73 kilometres east of Oita, Japan, with a depth of 46 kilometres.

“However, the quake poses no tsunami threat to Malaysia,” MetMalaysia said in a statement last night. – BERNAMA
