615 — a new high in Sarawak coronavirus cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 615 new Covid-19 cases on Monday (Apr 26), bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 28,529 cases, said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

In its daily statement, SDMC said of the total new cases reported, 78 people showed and experienced symptoms of Covid-19 infection during screening.

Meanwhile, 523 cases were individuals who had been given quarantine orders.

“The districts that recorded cases today (Apr 26) are Bintulu District (106), Sibu (90), Pakan (67), Kuching (55), Miri (52), Mukah (38), Kanowit (31), Lundu (25), Selangau (23), Saratok (19), Sarikei (16), Kapit (14), Belaga (Nine), Meradong (Nine), Julau (Eight), Sri Aman (Eight), Sebauh (Eight), Bau (Seven), Song (Four), Dalat (Four), Tatau (Four), Tanjung Manis (Three), Bukit Mabong (Three), Daro (Two), Subis (Two), Matu (Two), Marudi (Two), Serian (Two), Samarahan (One) and Beluru (One),” it said today.

The committee explained that 428 cases were detected through screenings of individuals who had contacts with Covid-19 positive cases while 91 cases were individuals in existing active clusters who were screened.

It added 51 cases were detected from screenings of symptomatic individuals in health facilities, 41 cases from other screenings in health facilities and four cases were individuals returning from other states in Malaysia.

It added 603 cases had recovered and were allowed to be discharged from hospitals and treatment centres throughout the state.

“This brings the total number of positive Covid-19 cases that had recovered or were allowed to be discharged to 22,432 people or 78.63 percent of the total number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak.

“The number of active cases still receiving treatment and isolated in low-risk treatment centres (PKRCs) and hospital wards is 5,866,” it added.

SDMC also reported 615 new person under surveillance cases (PUS).
