79 held in two-week drug swoop

A total of 79 individuals were arrested by Kuching narcotic police on suspicion of being involved in substance abuse.

KUCHING: A two-week operation led to the arrest of 79 suspects and the seizure of various drugs by narcotic police here.

District police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the operation was carried out from Jan 1 at various locations.

Among them are Kampung Sungai Bedil Besar, Kampung Lintang, Kampung Gita, Kampung Semerah Padi, Kampung Semariang, Kampung Tabuan Hilir, Jalan Abell, Jalan Green, Jalan Nanas Barat, Jalan Ban Hock, Jalan Tun Jugah, Jalan Pisang, Jalan Hup Kee, Taman Sri Sarawak and Queen Residence.

“A total of 68 men and 11 women aged between 20 and 66, believed to be involved in substance abuse activities, were arrested.

“Aside from that, police seized 147.36gm of syabu, 9.11gm of marijuana and 32 Erimin 5 pills,” he said.

Background checks found that 33 of the suspects had prior records related to drugs.
