10 new positive cases bring total to 397

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 10 new Covid-19 positive cases, bringing the total to 397 since the first case was reported on March 13.

Of the 10 cases, seven are at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), two at Miri Hospital and one at Sibu Hospital.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said this, representing the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), during its daily Covid-19 update yesterday.

He also mentioned that Sarawak recorded 119 new person under investigation (PUI) cases, bringing the cumulative total to 3,184 cases.

“Of this cumulative total, 2,687 cases had tested negative while 100 are awaiting laboratory test results,” he said.

From the 119 new PUI cases, 79 were in Kuching district, followed by Serian (13), Miri (10), Samarahan (seven), Bau (two), Bintulu (two), as well as one case each in Lundu, Asajaya, Simunjan, Sri Aman, Betong and Sarikei.

Dr Sim also said that as at yesterday, movement control order (MCO) compliance was at 97 percent.

“The police have arrested 112 people statewide for violation of the MCO and 36 of them had been charged in court. Since the MCO was enforced on March 18, a total of 887 people had been arrested and 520 of them had been charged in court,” he said.

Dr Sim further revealed that 870 personnel from various local authorities had carried out disinfection operations covering 54,610 business premises in 23 locations statewide yesterday.

He also mentioned that the total number of returning Sarawakians from overseas, Malaya, Sabah and Labuan placed at surveillance quarantine centres statewide as at 8am yesterday were 1,294 people.
