State records four new cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded four new positive Covid-19 cases yesterday, bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 632.

According to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), all the four cases were recorded in Kuching. Three of the cases were close contacts to active clusters.

“The first case is a local woman working as a vegetable seller at Stutong Market. She underwent screening at a government health clinic on July 18 and her rT-PCR result came back positive on July 22.

“The second case is a female patient at a health facility involved with Sentosa Cluster. Her swab test sample was taken on July 21 and yesterday the result came back positive. She will be referred to Sarawak General Hospital for further treatment.

“The third case is a man who is a close contact to Case 575 of Engineering Company cluster reported on July 7. He underwent screening on July 12 but the first rT-PCR test result was negative. On his second screening on July 21, the result came back positive two days after.

“All three cases did not show any symptoms for Covid-19,” SDMC said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the fourth case was a local woman who underwent screening on July 21 at a government clinic and her result came back positive yesterday.

“She also did not show any symptom. Further investigation is still ongoing to identify the source of infection as well as its correlation to any cluster or other positive cases,” SDMC stressed.

So far, there are eight active clusters in the state namely Engineering Company with three cases, Mambong (three), Health Facility (three), Jupiter (three), Stutong Market (seven), Kuching Jetty (two), Sentosa (eight) and PUI Melbourne (two).

The PUI Melbourne Cluster is a new cluster announced by Ministry of Health (MoH) on July 22. The cluster was detected when index case involving a local student (Case 587) returning home from Melbourne, Australia was tested positive at a quarantine centre in Kuching on July 17.

“Contact tracing was done and one case (Case 624) was detected who was on the same flight with the case from Kuala Lumpur to Kuching,” SDMC explained.

SDMC also revealed that there was no new recovery case, with the total number of Covid-19 cases recovered and discharged at 556, or 87.97 percent.

“At present, there are 58 cases undergoing treatment at isolation wards in hospitals. The total Covid-19 deaths in Sarawak remains at 18 or 2.85 percent,” it said.

Apart from that, 18 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases were reported while three cases were awaiting laboratory test result.
