DALAT: Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah has announced that the 12th state election would be her last time contesting in Dalat constituency.

The Dalat assemblywoman made the surprise announcement when speaking at a Ziarah Kampung programme at Kampung Sungai Kut Muara here today.

According to her, she had already told the chief minister and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) members about her intention to step down.

“Maybe there is another person who can replace me as I have been around long enough, and my age also increases, while people nowadays always say they want a young person, and we have to give opportunity to the young.

“However, tak gempang juga rasa (don’t feel nice too) because this will be the first time Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg leading the state election after becoming the chief minister for three years, the first time becoming chairman of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and the first time using GPS symbol,” she said.

The minister added because of her position as PBB Women chief, the current situation, and for the sake of the constituency as well as for a bigger struggle, the coming state election would be her last time and after that she would readily step down.

“When we are given the responsibility, we have to do our best, and this is what I have done and God is my witness for what I have done all this while,” she said adding that she has tried her best.
