KUCHING: Will Sarawak sit out of next season’s Malaysia League? The problem arose due to Football Association of Sarawak (FAS)’s failure to acquire the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) football license which saw the association also facing threeyear suspension action.

It might come true if the audit report and outstanding debts of FAS under the previous leadership Exco FAS (2012-2016) is not handed over to the relevant parties.

Unde r the t e rms of the Malaysian Football Association of Limited Liability Partnerships (FMLLPs), the deadline for submission of the two reports is on October 16, before the license can be given to the FAS to ensure that they are competing in the 2018 League.

This was stated by FAS president, Dato Posa Majais to reporters after chairing an FAS executive committee meeting at the State stadium on Saturday.

According to Posa, his new exco line-up are taking on the problems left by the previous FAS executive committee.

“All these issues have arisen under the management of the previous FAS executive committee through an established company (FAS FMG Sdn Bhd), so we as new members cannot be held responsible for all this,” said Dato Posa. Failure to resolve this crisis may see the Sarawak team not competing in the Malaysian League 2018, in addition to being seen as a loss to football in the state as any football activities or tournaments at any level here cannot be organised as well.

“We hope the old FAS exco lineup will speed up the process of overcoming the problem as there is still a week’s time for us to submit the report,” said Posa. Meanwhile, he admitted that he will also appeal to FMLLP on the matter.

“At the same time we will appeal to FMLLP and hope everything will be resolved within a week,” he said. Apart from Sarawak, four other teams – Felda United, Kedah, Kelantan and Melaka United – are facing a similar fate.
