KUCHING: Residents in Sibu are urged to stay put to minimise the spread of Covid-19 throughout the district.
Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew said the number of cases recorded for Sibu remains high and the trend suggests that more infections are occurring outside the Pasai Cluster.
“The number of cases in Sibu is still high. Today’s (Feb 6) figure shows 101 cases. Out of these figures, only 32 are from the Pasai Cluster.
“This means the majority of cases are picked up from random places throughout Sibu,” he said in a Facebook post on Saturday (Feb 6).
The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan chief said the cases are all over Sibu and are no longer limited to the longhouses.
“The only way to reduce and stop the spread of infection is for everyone to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs).
“Stop moving around unless it is absolutely necessary. Tracing and testing are still being done and needs to be increased,” he said.
Meanwhile, Education, Science and Technological Research Assistant Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee also lamented that cases in Sibu shot up to 101 on Saturday after dropping to double digits in the recent week.
“Of the total 101 cases, 29 are from active case detection (ACD) at longhouses while the remaining cases were from Sibu town.
“We will not fully break the chain of infection as long as we do not adhere to the movement control order (MCO) SOPs. Please stay at home,” the Nangka assemblyman said.
