KUCHING: Tupong St at e As s embl yman, Faz z rudi n Abdul Rahman was elected as the new chairman of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Tupong Branch. Since the passing of former Tupong Assemblyman, Datuk Haji Daud Abdul Rahman last July, the position has been left vacant and the branch’s deputy chairman, Dr Zaiedi Suhaili has been the acting chairman.

Fazzrudin won the chairman’s post unopposed while Dr Zaiedi also won the deputy chairman’s post unopposed during an election held recently. Dur ing hi s a c c ept anc e speech, Fazzrudin made three proposals.

Firstly, that the Minister of Works, Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof be retained as a candidate for the Petra Jaya Parliamentary constituency in the upcoming 14th General Elections.

“The people of Tupong are confident that Fadillah will continue to champion their needs and that we in Tupong want him to represent us as a candidate for the Petra Jaya Parliamentary constituency in the upcoming 14th General Elections,” he said.

The second proposal is that PBB Tupong Branch is giving its full support to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to retain his position as president of PBB. Lastly, the branch will also be supporting the appointment of both Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan as PBB’s deputy presidents.

“We have to ensure that PBB stays relevant and continues the vision that its former leaders had fought for from the party’s grassroots to the top brass.

We will also continue to support our Chief Minister’s efforts in developing Sarawak into a digital economy and be wary of any fake news published by netizens with the intention to harm his reputation. “We have to be able to manage, examine and present information effectively and efficiently so as not to create distortion or cause the people to panic,” Fazzrudin said.
