KGBS supports postponement of school sessions

KUCHING: The Sarawak Bumiputera Teacher’s Union (KGBS) supports the postponement of school sessions in the state’s red zones.

KGBS president Ahmad Malie in a statement said the delay was on the basis of health safety of relevant school’s population, especially teachers, students and other staff in the effort to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“Therefore, KGBS urges parents and guardians near schools in red zones to accept this postponement calmly and patiently,” he added.

The union is confident that teachers will be ready to conduct home learning session (PdPR) that will be continuing due the postponement of school sessions.

“KGBS believes that teachers in schools can find out operating through home learning session will be suited at their respective location,” said Ahmad.

“The support and cooperation of parents and guardians is also called for to ensure that their children are not marginalised from the home learning sessions.

“We hope that the PdPR sessions can continue to be implemented smoothly for the continuity of student learning in schools which are not affected during the postponement of the school session,” he added.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) recently announced the postponement of the school sessions effective from March 1 to 14.
