925 Kuching Polytechnic students return to campus

KUCHING: All 925 Sarawak Kuching Polytechnic (PKS) students will return to campus by registering at PKS residential colleges for today (March 20) and today’s (March 21) admission of Phase 1 of December 2020 Session.

PKS director Jamaliah Ahmad said all the students will undergo compulsory quarantine and isolation process first at their respective residential colleges before they can follow the lecture sessions.

She said the students would be divided into two groups — those in Sarawak and those from Malaya, Sabah and Labuan.

“For students from the Malaya, Sabah and Labuan, they will be quarantined for 14 days and undergo swab tests, while students from Sarawak will be isolated for 10 days,” she said when interviewed during a visit to the student registration centre here.

Jamaliah added that PKS are also grateful to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) for bearing the cost of food and drink for students undergoing compulsory quarantine phase 1.

Jamaliah said that the admission of students to PKS is in phases and the current admission will end this May 15.

The current admission of PKS students involves semesters 1 to 5 of various diploma studies for the December 2020 Session.

The students involved are those of the Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Petrochemical Engineering, Department of Information and Communication Technology and Department of Commerce.

Among the diploma programmes involved are Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Automotive), Diploma in Petrochemical Technology, Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Air Conditioning and Refrigeration), Diploma in Geomatics, and Diploma in Building Services (DPB).

During the registration session, strict adherence to standard operating procedures (SOP) such as body temperature checks, wearing face masks and use of hand sanitizer have been made mandatory for PKS staff and students.

The registration is 8am to 5pm at the PKS car park.

Also present was PKS deputy director (Academic Support) Mohamad Khirudin Amdan.
