Drug peddler suspect nabbed

MUKAH: The police here have detained a man who is suspected to be a drug peddler last Monday. The suspect in his 20s was arrested by a team from the Mukah Police Narcotic Investigation Division in an unnumbered house at Kampung Sesok here.

According to Mukah District Pol ice Chief, DSP Jimmy Ak Panyau, the suspect was arrested under Section 3(1) Dangerous Drug Act Special Prevent ive Measures (LLPK) 1985. He also disclosed that on the following day (on Tuesday, 9 Jan), they conducted two separate operations in housing estates.

“In the raids the team checked two houses, one each at Taman Desa Intan and Taman Yung Seng Phase III. In the first house at Taman Intan, seven women were arrested while in the second house at Taman Yung Seng a man and six women were detained aged between 18 and 37 years,” he said. Jimmy added that the arrestees were suspected of being involved in drug abused and were taken to Mukah Police Headquarters for further investigation.

“Urine tests conducted on the suspects comprising a man and seven women, they were all found to be positive of drug and are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a)of the Dangerous Drug Act, 1952. “However, the other six women were released unconditionally after their urine tests were found to be negative of drug,” he said in a press statement sent to the local media yesterday.
