MIRI: A school security guard thought that his crime could be covered by getting transferred to another school.
He feared being exposed after taking more than RM3,000 from his school’s martial arts association fund in Pujut.
The 28-year-old man was caught by the police on Tuesday (June 15) afternoon at a supermarket in Riam after a missing-money report was lodged.
A teacher at the school realized that the cash was missing during his snap inspection at the school’s administration office early Tuesday morning.
According to the local police chief, ACP Hakemal Hawari, the suspect who is a local man was arrested around 3.45pm.
Preliminary investigation found that this was not the suspect’s first time stealing money while he was on duty.
He committed the same offence while being on guard at another school, Hakemal said.
The current case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code.
