KUCHING: Sarawak General Hospital’s (SGH) Blood Bank Centre, which opened last Dec 11, provides a new contemporary, big and comfortable blood donation environment for people who wish to donate blood.

It has covered parking as well as motorcycle parking and an integrated day care centre and laboratory.

“In addition to the waiting area and lounge area, there are 11 donor beds available,” SGH said in a statement.

“To be precise, the daily consumption of blood bags is anticipated to be 70 bags for emergency situations, everyday treatment of cancer patients, thalassemia, and blood supply to district and private hospitals.

“The Blood Bank Centre operates on Mondays to Fridays from 8am to 4.30pm and for Sundays and Saturdays, will be updated weekly on SGH Blood Bank Facebook Page.”

Donors will be checked by the medical officer on duty, ask  about their close contact history, location, and current health, and each time a health worker completes the blood collection process, the blood donation equipment will be sterilised as per SOP requirements.
