SARIKEI: A sum of RM448,000 has been allocated for the installation and completion of a new traffic light system here.

Repok assemblyman Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii said the allocation was from the Ministry of Local Government and Housing.

Application was made in December last year to help solve traffic congestion, he added.

“The project will commence on July 19 and it is for a duration of four months. Syarikat Seri Teknik, a company with expertise in traffic light systems, is the contractor.

“Work will also be done to improve the surrounding roads as well as moving the street lights. The contractor will liaise directly with Sarawak Energy Berhad,” Huang explained during a visit to the  Dewan Suarah Sarikei PPV (vaccination centre) on Tuesday (July 13).

He said the project would not only create an improved traffic flow to prevent congestion but also improve pedestrian safety.

The project is scheduled for completion in November.
