State’s NREB calls on Abg Johari

KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on Thursady (Sept 9) received a courtesy call from the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia, Petra Jaya here.

The purpose of the visit was to invite the chief minister to officiate at the presentation of the Ninth Edition of the Chief Minister’s Environmental Award Presentation Ceremony (CMEA), to be held on Sept 13.

CMEA is jointly organised by the NREB and the Sarawak Business Federation (SBF).

NREB controller Peggy Ronon Edin said this time around the award saw encouraging response.

This award is to raise awareness in environmental protection and conservation of natural resources for sustainable development.

It is a prestigious environmental award for the business and industry sector in Sarawak.

The categories for the 9th CMEA are divided into seven major sectors, led by five major economic sectors aligned with the national economic definitions.

The five are Agriculture and Forestry; Mining and Resource Extraction; Manufacturing; plus Construction and Services.

There will also be two other categories, namely local government and Individual to cater for individuals and journalists.

In addition, there will be a category catering specifically for restaurants and food shops which are dedicated to the Services Sector.

Also present during the courtesy call were the Acting Senior Assistant Controller (Environmental Education & Publicity), Penny Sumok and four senior officers from NREB.
