KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on Tuesday (Feb 8) received visitors from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) led by their board chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Sulong Matjeraie.

Besides being informed about the 25th UNIMAS convocation to be held from Feb 14 to 17 he was invited to the event.

A total of 3,587 students will graduate on Feb 16 and 17 — 424 with master’s degrees and doctoral degrees (PhD). There are 66 international graduates.

According to the special officer to the UNIMAS vice-chancellor Mohad Husaini Noorjaya Chew, this will be the university’s first convocation during the pandemic following the postponed one in 2020.

“The convocation was held virtually in 2021 with no graduates physically present. In compliance with the standard operating procedure (SOP), the 25th convocation ceremony will only involve graduates. Parents are not invited,” he said.

UNIMAS vice-chancellor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suadi and UNIMAS Registrar, Azlan Ramli, were also present during the courtesy visit.
