Book by two local authors launched

MIRI: A book entitled “Jarum Yang Halal” featuring two local authors, Jong Koi Chong from Miri and Nooralifah Jali (Limbang), was launched yesterday.

The book is published by Adana Publishing.

The simple launching ceremony was officiated at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak Miri branch by Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew.

Ting, in his opening remarks, emphasised the importance of inculcating the reading habits in the young generation as it imparts knowledge in a person.

“Allocate the time for reading because the more you read, you willl be able to have wonderful conversations and more knowledge,” he pointed out.

Besides Bahasa Malaysia books, he said books in English and other languages should also be read.

Ting also disclosed that the state government was giving financial funding to help local writers in their manuscripts.

“We offer grants to local writers to fund their work, and they can approach us for help,” he told a press conference after the launch.

Also present at the ceremony were Norhayati Harun of Adana Publishing, Miri Hospital director Dr Jack Wong and the authors of the book, Jong Koi Chong and Noorlifah Jali.
