ACCORDING to sources from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), said Abdul Yakub Arbi (GPS-Balingian), a telco paid RM598.55mil to obtain a spectrum licence.

Yakub opined that a brighter future would be the result of tabling of this Bill, and provides additional value to the Land Code.

“The term ‘spectrum’ is introduced in this amendment, which refers to the invisible radio frequencies that wireless signals travel over.

“At present, MCMC has the rights to issue spectrum licence and this amendment will provide legal rights for Sarawak as far as under the Land Code is concerned,” he explained.

He added that with the amendment, Sarawak would be able to govern and regulate the state’s airspace, which include spectrum and land use for carbon storage.

典he time has come for us to acknowledge that our rights on our land is no longer confined to what lies on the surface or underneath, but also the airspace around the land.”

He finished by adding that if the Amendment Bill was passed, it would add new dimension to Sarawak’s effort to re-engineer the economy, resulting in the creation of new revenue streams.
