SIBU: A heritage trail for Sibu Town will be developed to boost the tourism sector here, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He had asked the State Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts to implement it.

“The heritage trail for Sibu is a trail that will connect the history places in Sibu and other hubs for tourist’s viewing.

“The industry sector in Sibu especially needs an infrastructure (development) approach that is more friendly for tourist attraction to visit a destination. And for Sibu, we in the state government has proposed to review the development occuring here.

“Sibu have its own heritage and backgrounds and we will maintain that heritage,” he said during the Closing ceremony of Borneo Cultural Festival 2022 at Dataran Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang tonight.

Abang Johari said the heritage trail will be a boon to the town given its vast riches in historical landmarks such as Dataran Sibu and other nearby places such as the Lau King Howe Hospital Memorial Museum and Bukit Lima Forest Park.

“This Sarawak culture is unique in Sarawak, therefore the level of understanding among us is very high, as well our unity,” he said.
