KUCHING: The implementation of Undi18 is an opportunity for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to strengthen its position as the first choice party in the agenda of fighting for the well-being and prosperity of the people.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women’s chief Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the 15th General Election (GE15) will be more challenging than the previous elections due to the presence of 18-year-old voters.

“This also includes groups that never registered to vote before and are now automatically included as voters.

“However, at the same time, this matter should be seen as an opportunity for us to strengthen GPS’ position as the first choice party in the agenda of fighting for the well-being and prosperity of the people,” she said.

She said this during the launching of the GPS Women Machinery at Penview Convention Centre on Today (Oct 30).

According to her, the number of voters in GE15 stood at 1,943,074.

“Of that number, 975,618 people or 50.21 per cent are male voters while 967,456 female voters (49.79 percent).

“This is a large number and needs to be reached out to by any means so that the our message, the initiative of our Chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and also programmes that greatly benefit the people, including the youth, will convince them that GPS is the best choice,” she said.

Meanwhile, explaining the role of women’s wing, Fatimah shared that the history of elections in Sarawak shows that women are effective vote-getters.

“Their patience, diligence, loyalty and tenacity have been proven all this time. Moreover, their femininity has its own advantages in winning votes and convincing people to be loyal to us through thick and thin,” she said.

In light of this, she reminded all members of the Women’s Machinery from the GPS component parties to move and work as a solid team, while helping, respecting and appreciating each other.

“I urge that we ignore things that can cause division among us and threaten our unity because united we are strong, divided we fall.

“Let us all focus, give our energy and available resources to help the GPS candidates who will be fielded in GE15 to win,” she said.
