Tanjung Manis gets RM83m administrative centre

MUKAH: The 16-storey Tanjung Manis Administrative Building will commence operations next year as a one stop centre to serve both the public and investors.

Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the RM83 million administration centre will house government departments and agencies.

“This includes the District Office, Customs Department, Immigration Department, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Sarawak Forestry Corporation and Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC).

“It will also house banking facilities, express mail services, public cafeterias and galleries, meeting rooms to provide a complete ‘ecosystem’ for all residents of government and private agency offices,” he said here, yesterday (Nov 15).

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg was present to officiate at the opening of the building and witnessed the handing over of the building’s replica keys from Empayar Setia Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Safri Abdillah to STIDC general manager Hashim Bojet and also from Hashim to the Administration Unit director Datuk Nicholas Sia in the Premier’s Department.

The administration centre which can accommodate 2,078 people at one time will help ease the hassle of travelling to Sibu, Mukah or Sarikei for business and official purposes.

Len added that the 12th floor of this building will also house a Data Centre to provide internet infrastructure to meet the needs of the digital economy by investors and industry in Tanjung Manis Economic Growth Area (T-MEGA).

“This is additional infrastructure to the fiberisation project in Tanjung Manis to enable the Internet of Things (IOT) to be used by industries in T-MEGA towards Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) in the future,” he said.

Meanwhile, the second phase of the building will house a banquet hall, an auditorium and a surau with a capacity of 1,200 people, 2,000 people and 500 worshippers respectively.

Also present were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, State Secretary Datuk Amar Abu Bakar Marzuki; Tanjung Manis incumbent Yusuf Abdul Wahap; Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Abdullah Saidol (Corporate Affairs and UKAS);Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya.
