MARUDI: Two men, aged 26 and 21, were arrested Monday for criminal intimidation and for allegedly obstructing an ongoing payroll process at an estate (plantation) in Marudi. Baram police chief DSP Gabriel Risut when confirming this in a statement via a WhatsApp application, said, the men were apprehended following a police report lodged by the estate’s security guard.

“The alleged incident reportedly happened on Saturday (Aug 11) at the estate’s office, around 3pm, where the suspects were believed to have uttered abusive words towards the security guards on duty and persistently of making mockery of them,”said Gabriel.

He said, the estate’s security guards had instructed them nicely to leave the area to prevent untoward incident. However the two culprits were not happy with the instruction. Eventually both of them walked out off the area, but returned, armed with machetes and a shotgun.

Fortunately, they left after the estate manager approved their leaves’ applications. DSP Gabriel said, the case is being investigated for criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the Penal Code . “Remand application for both suspects will be applied today,” he added yesterday.
