KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived in Kuching at about 4pm today (Jan 19) for a two-day official visit.

He was welcomed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian and other dignitaries.

Anwar will be here from Jan 19 to 20 and this is his first visit to Sarawak as Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister since he was sworn in last Nov 24.

He headed to Abang Johari’s residence before attending the state banquet held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching.

On Friday (Jan 20), Anwar will chair the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) committee meeting at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN).

The meeting is expected to discuss matters concerning Sarawak and Sabah’s autonomy on public projects worth below RM50mil, official gazetting of the status of Sabah and Sarawak as regions and the formula for the special grant increase to Sabah and Sarawak based on Article 112D of the Federal Constitution.
