KUCHING: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Vice Women chief, Angeline Umih agreed with Datuk William Nyallau that the person(s) hiding behind anonymity on an article, ‘Nyallau may give way to new face in Lubok Antu’ speaks for his/their characters; the source(s) are either ill-informed or have malicious intentions.

Angeline said PRS Women chief, Dato’ Sri Doris Brodie was appointed as member of the House of Senate in 2010 for a period of 6 years. That appointment came about after she has been in politics for approximately 24 years.

Thereafter, in July 2016, she was appointed as political secretary to Chief Minister, a post still holds till now.

“With regards, it is very obvious that the person(s) who remarked in anonymity that if our Women chief is to be fielded, there would be disgruntlement from within the leadership of the party, are presumptuous and are not rationale in his thinking and approach.

“Whoever the person is/are, had failed to see that there are also many ‘wakil rakyat’ out there who have served far too long; some have even served as member of the State Legislative Assembly and thereafter as members of Parliament for many terms. On behalf of PRS Women Wing, I deem the source for the said write up is/are also very desperate and gender biased for the fact that he/they would go the extra miles to serve his/their agendas and create ill wills,” she said.

She explained that Doris is a no nonsense leader who led them through thick and thin of things with full dedication and commitment.

Besides being loyal to the party struggle and leadership, she said Doris is their source of inspiration and continuously speaks and ‘fights’ for Dayak women’s rights and when she was appointed as Senator and Deputy President of Senate, she has made PRS Women members and all Dayak Women proud for her outstanding performance, commitments and dedication. It is probably these qualities of our Women chief that has made the person(s) feel threatened.

“We, PRS Women’s Wing laud the move for her to be one of the candidates in the coming PRU14. However, she had publicly expressed that she has no plans to stand in the coming general election but would love to see other Dayak women fielded.

“With regards to the above and in response to the call by our Deputy President, Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun during the opening of our PRS Women Triennial Delegates’ Conference held in Bintulu in Dec 2016, where he threw a challenge to PRS Women Delegates to identify the constituencies and women candidates that they wish to put up in future elections, we (PRS Women Wing) are compiling and will be submitting our candidates’ list to the Party President soon,” she added.

Angeline said as collectively agreed during their PRS Women Wing meeting held on 5th March 2017, in Miri, they had proposed names of women candidates for all thesix Parliamentary seats allocated to PRS.

“This is to ensure that we cast our net wide as we don’t know if there will be any changes to the incumbents. However, we will leave it to our Party President to have the final say and we shall abide by whatever decisions he makes thereafter.

“We are certain that our Party President knows what is best for the party and we thank him for his inclusiveness. We hope that the men-centric mindset in PRS will cease and that PRS will not be easily swayed by hypocrites and people with malicious agendas,” she concluded.
