BADMINTON WORLD MASTERS’ CHAMPIONSHIP

KUCHING: Two 89-year-old men will be showing the world that age is no obstacle to chasing one’s dreams as they join about 2,000 badminton players in the 26th World Masters’ Badminton Championship 2019 here which is being held from Friday until today.

According to Liao Guo Feng from Taiwan, it is his deep interest in badminton and a strong spirit that drive him to be involved in the sports despite his age.

The father of two and grandfather of three has been playing in championship games since the age of 44.

“I have lost count of how many championships I have joined; this is my second time competing in Malaysia, the first was in Kuala Lumpur, but I cannot remember when,” he told reporters in Mandarin at the championship dinner event held here.

Also present were Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
