KUCHING: About 455 residents of seven longhouses from the Ulu Baram area have received basic healthcare and health education recently.

With an aim to spread love and care, the medical outreach programme was co-organised by the Taiwan Buddhist Tzu-Chi Foundation Malaysia (Tzu Chi) Kuching Liaison Office and Kelab Cabaran Pacuan 4 Roda Bintulu (4×4).

A total of 164 Tzu Chi medical professionals and volunteers from Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang, Johor, Kedah, Sabah, as well as the Sibu, Miri, Bintulu and Kuching divisions and 104 4×4 members from Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur, travelled in 71 four-wheel-drive vehicles to the interior area of Ulu Baram for the medical outreach programme.

The programme provided basic screening, medical consultations and medications, traditional Chinese medicine consultations and treatments, dental screening and treatments, as well as women’s health screening to the residents of the seven longhouses, to ease their physical pain and mental stress.

The team also provided hair lice treatments and haircut services to the local residents, especially the children.
