KUCHING: With the recent surge of COVID-19 cases of late, many Sarawakians opted to limit the Christmas celebration to their immediate family members and close friends.

For 29-year-old marketing executive Royston Sungong, while it did not dampen the atmosphere of the celebration, this was a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of their loved ones.

“In light of the ongoing challenges posed by the rising COVID-19 cases, this year’s celebration is more intimate, focusing on celebrating Christmas with close family members.

“The preparations for Christmas are in full swing, with homes adorned in festive decorations, twinkling lights, and the delightful aroma of holiday treats filling the air.

“The meticulous planning and effort put into creating a warm, inviting environment contribute to the anticipation of the joyful celebration.” he said.

Sungong said this Christmas, his wish is for a global healing and a brighter future for everyone. He wished that holiday season will bring hope, resilience, and a renewed sense of unity.

“Christmas is still the season for celebrating; for saying to yourself that you have completed a successful year; that you’ve accomplished most of what you had wanted to at the start of the year.

“Most of all, it reminds us all to be thankful, grateful, appreciative and to thank God for all that he has bestowed and blessed us with the last twelve months as we look forward to a new year with a new promise ahead.

“As we come together to celebrate this cherished holiday, let us remember the true spirit of Christmas which are love, peace, and goodwill towards all,” he said.
