AADK arrests 466 drug addicts last year

KUCHING: The state National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) has arrested 466 individuals involved in drug abuse through its massive operations throughout the state last year. State AADK Director, Wan Madihi Wan Salleh said most of the individuals were detained in their antidrugs operations where almost all of them were found to have syabu after undergoing urine tests.

“We were able to detect 466 individuals involved in drug abuse last year compared with 143 individuals in 2016 and 166 individuals in 2015,” he said after launching the Sarawak AADK Assembly 2018 at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar in Jalan Simpang Tiga here yesterday.

He added since last year, the state AADK has started operations in the state waters with the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and also conducting operations immediately upon receipt of complaints. “In total, 305 anti-drugs operat ions have been conducted throughout the state last year by selecting three ‘Perangi Dadah Habis-Habisan’ (PDH) 2.0 areas which are in Samariang, Gita as well as Sri Aman.

“This year, AADK Sarawak will continue to intensify efforts to carry out the same operation with seven PDH 3.0 areas selected,” he said.

The seven areas were Kuching (Samariang, Tabuan and Kuching Waterfront), Gita (Matang / Batu Kawah), Samarahan, Sri Aman (Hulu, Hilir and Pasir Panas), Miri / Lawas (Tudan, Bekenu, Sundar and Miri / Limbang), Bintulu (Jepak, Asyakirin, Bandar Bintulu, Kampung Sebiew Jalan Bintulu / Miri), Sibu / Sarikei (Kampung Dato, Kampung Nangka, Sibu Jaya and Kampung Pahlawan). At the same event, a total of 224 AADK officers took part in the Corruption-Free pledge witnessed by state Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission (MACC) Deputy Director, Zulhairy Zaidel.
