Abdul Karim re-elected as Saberkas president for 2023-2026 term

KUCHING: Minister for Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has been reappointed as the president of the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) for another term.

As reported by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Abdul Karim won the position uncontested during the 17th Triennial General Assembly of Saberkas on Tuesday (Dec 5) for the 2023-2026 term.

Abdul Karim, who is also the Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, first held the position in 2020.

Deputy Minister for Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu also won uncontested for the position of deputy president.

Previously, the position was held by Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi. Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad retained his position as the secretary-general.

Additionally, the meeting saw the election of four assemblymen as vice-presidents: Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan; Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee; Telang Usan assemblyman Datuk Dennis Ngau, and Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh.

Azizul received 246 votes, Tiang secured 230 votes, while both Dennis and Miro received 196 votes each.
