KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth deputy chief Miro Simuh agrees with his party vice-president’s recent remarks about party-hopping.

Party-hopping is not healthy and when the new generation adopts this culture, it brings no good to the nation, Miro said.

Appointed leaders should lead by example and cannot let the new generation follow this culture, he added.

“I can’t badmouth those who chose to switch parties. In politics, there are thousands of possibilities, and they have their own reasons known only to themselves.

“But I do agree with Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah’s statement. Because being loyal to the party is of the utmost importance to any politician,” he told New Sarawak Tribune on Tuesday.

Miro said elected representatives need to uphold the people’s mandate based on the support given to them.

“I believed that politicians from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) are mature enough to value integrity and royalty.

“And with GPS’ track record so far, I hope Sarawakians will give us the support so that we can continue to serve and fight for Sarawak,” he said.

Meanwhile, Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Youth chief Robert Ayu also gave Abdul Karim’s views the thumbs up.

“GPS YBs (elected representative) are not party-hoppers. We strongly believe in our struggle that is ‘Sarawak first’.

“Above all, GPS puts Sarawak first and only GPS can protect Sarawak’s interests. Therefore, there is no reason for our YBs to jump ship,” he said.

“GPS has a responsibility to look after the state and her people, thus its politicians are taking that responsibility very seriously.”
