BATU Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang has called for the setting up of an additional 23 fire stations to meet the demands of the state’s growing population.

“Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department director stated that there are only 39 fire stations in our state currently,” he said.

He said this when debating on the motion of appreciation for the TYT’s address at the first meeting of the Second Term of the 19th State Legislative Assembly yesterday.

Lo also mentioned the limited space for different types of fire hydrants, sluice valves or underground fire hydrants, especially from the old days before the birth of fire hydrants.

“It is worthy to note that there are many more such sluice valve hydrants beneath the roads in the Parliamentary constituency of Stampin.

He also pointed out that it is crucial for the Stampin MP to focus on seeking funds for the federal agency.

With the funds, the upgrading of existing sluice valve fire hydrants to pillar hydrants is imperative as they are above ground and more visible, he added.
