MIRI: As the northern areas of Miri, especially in the Bekenu constituency, brace for the arrival of the dry season, preparations are underway across various agencies.

“Local agencies are actively strategising to confront the impending drought, recognising its potential impact on water supply.

“The Welfare Department, operating under the ministry, is also gearing up to address the challenges, particularly in remote areas where access to water might become scarce,” said Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Rosey Yunus on Monday (April 15).

Met at her Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at Taman Bumiko here, she added that the concern revolves around ensuring sufficient water supply to meet future demand, highlighting the importance of proactive measures to mitigate potential shortages.

The Bekenu assemblywoman acknowledged the readiness of the district office, emphasising its preparedness to tackle the challenges posed by the drought.

“This collaborative approach underscores the importance of preemptive action in ensuring the community’s resilience in the face of impending environmental challenges.”

On another note, Rosey expressed her excitement on Gua Niah potentially becoming a Unesco World Heritage Site.

“Oh, Gua Niah is absolutely magnificent! The thought of it being recognised on a global scale fills me with joy. It’s not just a cave; it’s a treasure trove of history, with its ancient cave paintings, archaeological wonders, and the rich biodiversity surrounding it.

“The prospect of its preservation and recognition brings hope for its continued legacy for generations to come. I can already imagine the influx of tourists eager to explore its depths and unravel its mysteries, and I’m thrilled at the thought of being one of them.”
