KUALA LUMPUR: The original Harumanis mangoes from Perlis, which are known for their sweet taste and smell, are being brought to international markets via online grocery shopping platform airasia grocer.

Besides distributing the fruits to key partners in the Klang Valley, Sabah and Sarawak, airasia grocer currently has also established cross-border distribution in Singapore and Hong Kong.

In a statement today, airasia grocer, who is also the Capital A Bhd subsidiary, said this initiative was supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (MAFI), Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) as well as the Department of Agriculture (DOA).

“The fruits entering the international market space are another milestone for us made possible with our collaboration with MAFI, FAMA and DOA.

“We are confident that mango lovers will share our love for this sweet tasting and smelling fruit,” said airasia grocer chief executive officer Joanna Ibrahim.

The fruits were able to reach their international destinations within 48 hours from the time of harvest, including time for stringent quality checks, packaging, flight time and customs clearance processes at delivery destinations.

airasia grocer also pointed out that they were instrumental in ensuring that the products were export-ready and marketable in Asia.

“This is in line with our vision to connect farmers directly to businesses and consumers within Malaysia and internationally,” added the statement.

The statement also quoted veteran Harumanis agropreneur Muhammad Ihsan Ibrahim as saying the farming community is grateful and pleased that the fruits of their labour are exported to international markets with speed and care as the last two years have been very difficult for them.

“The handling of these fruits is very important to ensure that the freshness and quality is maintained,” he said.
