LIMBANG: The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has capped airfares from Peninsular Malaysia to East Malaysia at RM599 to make travel more affordable.

Deputy Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah said that this initiative, primarily aimed at facilitating travel for Sarawak, Sabah, and Labuan residents, comes just in time for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

“By setting a maximum ticket price of RM599 for flights to Sabah and Sarawak on the eve of Hari Raya, we’re ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to return to their hometowns for the festivities,” he said at the Mosque and Surau Outright Grant (OG) handover ceremony held at the Baitul Iman Mosque here recently.

On this occasion, Hasbi, who is also the Limbang MP, distributed grants totalling RM196,000 to 10 mosques and 52 suraus in his constituency.

He further highlighted that those booking their flights early could benefit from even lower prices, as the RM599 cap applies mainly to last-minute purchases.
