KUCHING: The Public Works Department (JKR) has opened up an alternative road to ease traffic congestion near the INTAN roundabout along the Samarahan/Kuching Expressway.

In a statement issued yesterday, JKR informed that it is currently upgrading the road which is a major construction work.

“As an effort to manage traffic issues, the ongoing construction work is divided in two shifts specifically from 9 am to 4 pm and 9 pm to 4 am daily including public holidays.

“The two shifts were introduced due to the unpredictable harsh weather conditions causing projects to stop and ensuring the speedy delivery of construction to allow the earliest possible public use of all lanes,” JKR said in the statement.

Following that, it has highlighted that the road conditions leading up to the INTAN roundabout is still covered with gravel as it was prepared for the premix to be laid and due to the continuous heavy rainfall for the last few days, the premix could not be laid for the time being.

JKR has advised the public to continue driving with caution as flooding at some sections of the road at Roundabout 1 is to be mitigated with temporary drainage.

Therefore, JKR urges the public to continue to drive safely and adhere to the traffic regulations.

JKR would like to thank the public for their continued patience and would like to assure the public that the department is taking every possible measure to ensure road safety is adhered to and for the smooth delivery of this project to complete in a timely manner.
