E-hailing driver pleads not guilty to kissing female student

KUCHING: An e-hailing driver claimed trial in the Magistrate’s Court after he pleaded not guilty to outraging the modesty of an university student using his service.

Awang Budiman, 35, pleaded not guilty to a charge framed under Section 354 of the Penal Code before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

If convicted, the accused can be sentenced to jail for a term up to ten years or a fine or, whipping of the rotan or whichever is related.

Syarifah fixed the date of re-mention for case management on Nov 30 and ordered the accused to be released on a RM1,000 cash bail with one local surety.

According to the charges, he allegedly kissed the 18-year-old female victim on the lips in a compact car.

He committed the offence when the victim was using the e-hailing service from Taman Orchid Wood, around 7.30 pm last October 16.

Insp Mohd Adzmei Ahmad prosecuted the case while, the accused was unrepresented by counsel.
