KUCHING: The Kuching District Merdeka@Community 2020 programme was successfully conducted at the Taman Everbright/Taman Phoning Community Association Hall here on Friday.

The opening ceremony of the programme organised by the Information Department (JaPen) Kuching District was officiated at by Kuching Division Resident Sherrina Hussaini.

The programme was conducted in a moderate but lively manner with various interesting presentations in full compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Seeing as the country is still facing the Covid-19 pandemic, all members of the public must always abide by all SOPs outlined by the National Security Council (NSC), regardless of where they are.

“Make sure that we always practise the 3Ws, namely ‘wash’ (always wash hands with water and soap or hand sanitiser), ‘wear’ (always wear a face mask), and ‘warn’ (always remember and comply with all guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health),” said Sherrina in her speech to about 100 invited guests at the ceremony.

She also reminded everyone to avoid crowded places, confined places such as meeting rooms, and closed conversations as these 3Cs could cause Covid-19 to spread easily.

“Ensure that you all practise physical distancing and always use face masks and hand sanitisers as these measures can directly help to curb the spread of Covid-19,” she said.

She expressed her happiness that the Merdeka@Community programme had successfully raised the people’s patriotic spirit during the current National Month celebration throughout the country.

“Fly the Jalur Gemilang as that is a sign of love for Malaysia. The Jalur Gemilang must be respected and should be flown not only during the National Month but at all times,” she said.

During the ceremony, various activities such as performances by guest singers, Jalur Gemilang handover ceremony, and singing of the ‘Jalur Gemilang’ song enlivened the programme that night.

Also present at the ceremony were Mohamad Sahrizan Putit representing the JaPen Sarawak director, Charles Aloysius Lisu representing the Kuching District Officer, Kuching District JaPen officer Magdellina Alfred Jeho, and community leaders Penghulu Lai Boon Khee and Kapitan Wong Ka Chuang.
