SIBU: The Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) and Ketua Masyarakat, Ketua Kaum’s (KMKK) non-transparency in managing the funds from the government is seen as a source of contention in longhouses.

Daro assemblyman Shafiee Ahmad was speaking to the media after officiating the closing of N43 Daro KMKK and JKKK course on Thursday (July 7).

“Among the causes of the split in residents in the longhouses is the lack of transparency in them (JKKK) implementing the programme, especially from funds that have been distributed by elected representatives or the government.”

According to Shafiee, prevention measures included the KMKK and JKKK providing an annual financial report.

“The report is not only on how the activities are implemented by the JKKK but also includes how the funds are spent.

“The purpose is so that we can ensure that the programmes or activities implemented by the JKKK are in accordance with what is planned and can prevent any allegation or dispute related to the misuse of funds.”
