SIBU: Yet another soldier’s life was claimed in a car crash along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman on the first day of Hari Raya.
The accident happened around 7.35am today (Apr 10) when the victim’s Proton Saga had skidded and plunged into the ditch in Mile 6.
Firefighters from Sungai Merah station were dispatched to the scene, about 14km away, after receiving a distress call.
Upon arrival, they found that the vehicle was submerged in the ditch and the victim had been rescued out of the car.
The victim, identified as John Ray Dohem, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
His body was taken to Sibu hospital for post-mortem procedures.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the operation concluded at 8.46am.
