Anwar expected to visit Sarawak early Feb

SIBU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to make his first official visit to Sarawak early February to attend a meeting on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MTPPMA63) in Kuching.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said that the Prime Minister has agreed that the first meeting of the council be held in Kuching during his official visit to Sarawak, however the date has yet to be fixed.

“I am not certain whether it will be this month. It was planned for Jan 19 but the schedule has not been fixed yet. We hope the latest will be early February,” he said when met by reporters after having breakfast with 200 parishioners of Masjid An-Nur at Dapur Ani restaurant today.

The Petra Jaya MP, said that the meeting is to discuss matters concerning Sarawak and Sabah’s autonomy on public projects under RM50 million.

Fadillah also said that he would ask the federal government to focus on the development of Sibu, especially on housing.

He would like ensure how federal government agencies can help ease the burden of the state government in developing affordable housing for the younger generation as one of the challenges in is the high cost in the construction of houses as the town sits on peat soil.

Earlier, the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities also took time to visit Rosli Dhobi and Bujang Suntong tombs before proceeding to have breakfast at Dapur Ani.

Also present were Nangka assemblyman Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee.
