Anwar to meet Abang Jo over PADU issue

KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be meeting Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg here this coming Saturday (Mar 30).

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the meeting would touch on issues related to the registration process of the Central Database Hub (PADU).

“There may be some discussions on the PADU registration process.

“Minister of Economy Rafizi Ramli also informed that the ministry’s secretary-general will hold discussions with the Sarawak State Secretary today,” he was quoted as saying in a news report by TVS today.

Earlier, Fahmi, who is also spokesman for the unity government to handle the media, was talking to reporters at a press conference in Parliament.

He said Sarawak has recorded a high registration rate for PADU as compared to other states.

“However, on the implementation aspect, whether it will use state government machinery or vice versa, it will be decided,” he was quoted as saying.

He also expressed optimism that PADU registration will reach 50 per cent by the end of this month.

On Mar 23, it was reported that Rafizi was asked by Anwar to clarify the  PADU registration issue at the Cabinet meeting this week.

“Yesterday I had a discussion with the Premier of Sarawak and he voiced his concern and raised some questions.

“Accordingly, the Minister of Economy was asked to examine the issue and provide an explanation to the Cabinet,” said Anwar.
