MIRI: Factory workers are facing workplace risks everyday and it appears that the threat of being bitten by deadly black cobra is one of them.

Workers here were certainly on edge for their safety after a cobra slithered into a factory they worked at near Jalan Prunus Piasau Utara here this morning (Dec 1).

However, the one metre long reptile was captured by Civil Defence Force (APM) Miri members after they were alerted of the incident around 8.40am.

APM Miri officer Lt (PA) Mirwan Shah Masri confirmed that a four-member team was deployed to the scene to catch the reptile.

“The team quickly secured the area and found the cobra hiding in the factory store.

“The reptile, as big as a broomstick, was captured using special equipment before it was released into its original habitat,” he said.

Prior to the operation, the team met with a 40-year-old complainant who informed them that one of the workers had caught a glimpse of the reptile slithering into the store.

Fearing for the factory workers’ safety, the complainant immediately reached out to APM Miri for further assistance.

The team wrapped up the operation at 9.20am and departed back to their headquarters.
