KUCHING: Datuk Dr Jeniri Amir yesterday said that the media played an important role in the documentation of events.

The senior fellow of the National Professor’s Council (MPN) said  any events written by journalists were  rough drafts of the history of events that would be read by future  generations.

He said this at the Malaysian Defence Force’s (APM) News Writing Programme and Collaboration Ceremony with Suara Sarawak at the Malaysian Civil Defence Force headquarters here yesterday.

Dr Jeniri delivers his talk.

Dr Jeniri  hoped that the law enforcement agency would  assist the media to  obtain information on any   incidents to facilitate the dissemination of actual news as soon as possible.

He also suggested that APM Sarawak collaborate with more media agencies in the state.

Many people, he pointed out, did not know the true role of APM and its jobs.

“It is recommended that APM enhances its ties  with the media by holding meetings  with  editors and journalists in all media in Sarawak to   brief them on its duties.

“In addition, APM can also build close ties with the media by holding activities such as dinners or media appreciation ceremonies,” added Dr Jeniri.

Also present were Sarawak State APM Training Branch Head, Capt (PA) Zulfaituri Ramlee, Sarawak State APM Training Branch Senior Officer, Capt (PA) Azamsah Apearel and Suara Sarawak Executive Editor Rohana Wahed and 15 Suara Sarawak journalists.
