KUCHING: The imperative need for the reconstruction of three highly deteriorated schools within the Jemoreng constituency has been stressed by Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya.
The schools in question are SK Pergau, SK Bawang Tian and SK Sok.
“As I assess the state of these schools, I am holding onto the federal government’s promise to construct dilapidated schools in Sarawak,” the Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) affirmed.
Juanda, who is also the Jemoreng assemblyman, highlighted the persistent efforts made, including numerous letters submitted to the Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM).
“I don’t know how many letters have been sent, and all efforts have been made, but there hasn’t been any approval given by them.”
This predicament leaves teachers and students lacking even the most basic facilities necessary for education, he lamented.
Drawing attention to the situation of SMK Matu, he revealed that although it had been put out for tender, it remains at the tender stage without further progress.
“In this region, only three schools are constructed with durable materials like bricks and cement, namely SK Igan, SMK Agama Igan, and SJKC Chung Hua Matu.
“The other 11 schools are still built using wooden and board materials, dating back to the nation’s early years,” he revealed.
Furthermore, Juanda visited SK Pergau personally to assess the extent of its deterioration, considering it among the most severely affected schools in the region.
