KUCHING: Association of Importers and Traders of Motor Vehicles Malaysia (Pekema) Sarawak is committed to working with the government and private organisations to increase the number of charging stations for electric vehicles (EV).

President Datuk Ismail Abang Saufi said the association was subsidising 50 per cent of the cost to encourage members to put up charging stations at their premises.

“We understand that one of the main concerns with EVs is the availability of charging stations. In Sarawak, Pekema is collaborating with Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) Energy where we are eager to introduce our members’ range of EVs in the state.

“Pekema currently has 307 members nationwide with 34 based in Sarawak. Having outlets all over the country, we are confident that we can source and supply not just various EVs but also the charging stations required for the Sarawak market.”

Ismail said this in his welcoming speech during the Pekema-SEDC Energy EV Adoption Event on Tuesday (Jan 31).

He expressed confidence that the collaboration with SEDC Energy would make it easier for customers to source their choice of EVs and fuel cell EVs.
