KUALA LUMPUR: The Armed Forces Ex-Servicemen Affairs Corporation (Perhebat) found that most of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) veterans are inclined to run businesses or be self-employed after completing their service.

Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said that based on a study conducted by Perhebat in April, 83 per cent of veterans intend to run a business, while 17 per cent of them want to secure a second career after retirement.

He said the results of the study enable Perhebat and the Ministry of Defence to help veterans by acting as facilitators to match veterans with employers and entrepreneurship supervisory agencies.

“Among the initiatives implemented is through job placement and entrepreneurship programmes… Perhebat also provides guidance and monitors the ATM veterans’ second career up to a period of five years after they complete their service,” he said during a question and answer session in the Dewan Rakyat, today.

He said this in his reply to a question raised by Datuk Khlir Mohd Nor (PN-Ketereh) on the Ministry of Defence’s plans to ensure MAF veterans secured a second career. – BERNAMA
