KUCHING: The three-party debate between Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) and Democratic Action Party (DAP) themed “Sarawak, What’s Next?” on Friday almost turned rowdy when a member of the audience interjected while DAP’s Abdul Aziz was talking.

Aziz, the DAP Sarawak Youth publicity chief, who was representing his party in the debate, was talking on the failed attempt by the Pakatan Harapan government to amend Article 1 (2) of the Federal Constitution in Parliament recently.

“So, we have brought it up in Parliament already to amend Article 1 (2) of the Federal Constitution to restore Sabah and Sarawak as equal partners in the Federation of Malaysia, but what has GPS done? They don’t have the guts to support it. If you want to change things, it must go through Parliament and not the State Legislative Assembly (DUN),” he said.

Just after Aziz said this, several members of the audience voiced their disagreement with one of them saying to Aziz, “You cakap bohong!” (You talk nonsense).

Aziz maintained his cool and answered back, ‘This is my floor, please respect my floor.”

The person got up and told Aziz not to be sarcastic. Aziz then asked the person to go on stage to give his opinion.

However, the debate’s moderator Movement for Change, Sarawak (MoCS)’s chairman Francis Paul Siah reminded the audience to stop interjecting and respect the debaters and the organiser.

The two-hour debate was held at Grand Continental Hotel here.

Representing SUPP was its Central Youth secretary-general Milton Foo while PBK was represented by its president Voon Lee Shan.
